Japan Month 2024

Dr. Shobhana Radhakrishna will conduct a lecture tour on "Transformational Leadership of Mahatma Gandhi and His Public Diplomacy" for students at Japanese universities and at the Embassy of India in Japan from October 15th to 25th, 2024.

Dr. Shobhana Radhakrishna, a distinguished advocate for peace, nonviolence, and harmony, will embark on a lecture tour in Japan . This tour will include engagements at six universities and other prestigious institutions, aimed at promoting India-Japan relations and enhancing people-to-people contact. This initiative seeks to deepen the relationship between our two countries and foster a greater understanding among young minds in Japan about Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy and actions.

Renowned globally for her extensive work in promoting Mahatma Gandhi's universal philosophy, Dr. Radhakrishna aims to inspire the younger generation and students with principles of transformational leadership and public diplomacy, as exemplified by Gandhi. Her lectures will focus on the relevance of Gandhi's teachings in addressing contemporary global challenges, emphasizing the importance of peace, nonviolence, and harmony in today's turbulent times.

Since 2008, she has visited Japan seven times, delivering 27 talks at 15 universities. I have observed a keen interest among Japanese students in Gandhi’s teachings and the practical application of his nonviolent actions. Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology and programs remain relevant in the 21st century as the world strives to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Gandhi’s legacy serves as a powerful reminder that sustainable development is a continuous journey toward a just, equitable, and harmonious world.

With a decade of dedicated service, Dr. Radhakrishna has delivered 267 lectures in 134 countries and conducted online certificate courses in 109 countries, reaching a diverse international audience. Supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, her initiatives underscore the global relevance of Gandhi's teachings. During her visit to Japan, Dr. Radhakrishna will share her profound insights on how Gandhi's principles can be applied to foster a culture of peace and understanding across nations, thereby contributing to the global discourse on sustainable and harmonious development.
